The Farm Cats
The Story of Our Farm Cats
One day, the news reported that staff from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Safed municipality had removed many cats from a woman's apartment. The cats were in a terrible state: sick, injured and severely neglected.
The Ministry of Agriculture described an exceptional case already known to social services. The apartment in Safed had become a serious nuisance because of the smell. The cats lived in filth and suffered from fungal skin infections. The woman had previously sold cats, but over time had lost control of their numbers. They were neither vaccinated nor spayed or neutered.
The ministry's enforcement unit intended to bring charges against the elderly woman for violating animal welfare law.
The rescued cats received veterinary treatment in quarantine to prevent the fungal infection from spreading. They were also spayed or neutered and given the emotional support they so badly needed. Most found warm, loving homes. Some stayed at the farm, where they now live in peace.
