Shahar

The Story of Shahar

Little Shahar narrowly escaped abuse. A hoof had been torn from one leg, leaving a severe wound and making it impossible to put weight on it. Kind kibbutz residents found her injured, hid her in a room to keep her safe and immediately called for help.

We launched an urgent fundraiser and searched for transport for the suffering little one. It was not easy, but we were determined to bring her to us for care.
Because of the severity of her injury, she was rushed to Beit Dagan. She was bleeding and in pain, and we did not know whether her leg could be saved. After a thorough assessment and consultations with leading veterinary specialists, we cried with joy when we heard that Shahar would not lose her leg.

But recovery was still a long way off.
Our brave Shahar came home! Frightened and wary, she needed us to approach slowly, stroke her and reassure her that everything would be all right. We began antibiotics. Her injured leg received, and continues to receive, local treatment and special dressings to help her bear weight on it.

Shahar is already feeling much better. Slowly, both her body and her spirit are healing. She is learning to trust people again and realising that she has reached a place where she is cared for and loved. There is still a long journey ahead, but she is already enjoying her new life with the other farm residents.
